CANOPY CARE TIPS

MDA COVER MAINTENANCE

Keeping your MDA canopy in good condition will help keep your vehicle looking like new and increase its value. A simple way to achieve this is to clean and maintain the canopy on a regular basis.

First, wash the surface of the barrel with a recognized and commercially available cleaner to clean the gelcoat (gel coating) on the surface of the barrel.

DISCOLORATION

The fading or discoloration of the “gelcoat” is a natural aging process caused by UV rays. To remedy this, use fine sandpaper to remove a thin layer of discolored surface. This will restore the canopy’s color and surface gloss to its original appearance.

Since fading is increasing gradually, it is not necessary to have this procedure done more than every three years. Regular use can reduce the thickness of the “gelcoat” leading to damage to the barrel.

REMOVING SCRATCHES ON “GELCOAT” AND PAINTED SURFACE

Scratches can be removed on both gelcoat and painted surfaces. This method depends on the depth of the scratch. Very small scratches such as hairline can be removed by rubbing along the scratch line with a rubbing compound. Deeper scratches can be lightly sanded with very fine sandpaper (1500 grit or finer). The rubbing compound will then remove the flat marks created by the sandpaper. For deeper scratches where there is a risk of paint or gelcoat seepage, we recommend consulting a garage.

MDA CANOPY PROTECTION

Protects gel polish and painted surfaces against dirt and harsh climatic conditions prolonging life and helping to maintain like-new condition. Use a polymer-free, silicone-free wax polish for gel polish, and a silicone-based polish for painted surfaces. Both are easy to do and you can do it yourself at home.

LUBRICATION OF MOVING PARTS

All moving parts (excluding hydraulic struts) must be lubricated with multipurpose oil monthly. This will ensure the longevity of these parts. The following parts should be serviced regularly:

  • Hinge – Apply oil to the hinge pins
  • Lock handle – Lubricate the lock and locking mechanism.
  • Locks – Lubricate the key core and the locking heads.

DO NOT LUBRICATE THE GAS STRUTS, LET THE GAS STRUTS BE LUBRICATE. JUST CLEAN THE DUST WITH A SOFT CLOTH. THIS WILL PROTECT THE PISTON. HELP YOUR WINDOW LOSS DURABLE AND ALWAYS LIKE NEW.

When not in use, store your canopy on a level surface. Do not place items on the top of the box, on the sides or on the back of the box. This can cause warping and cracking of barrel structures.
